As the MRC de La Haute-Côte-Nord was preparing to implement the collection of organic materials, SOLINOV first estimated the quantity of materials to be processed as well as the required capacity of the composting facility. Subsequently, SOLINOV supported the MRC in defining the composting process, as well as the infrastructure and equipment required. The firm also contributed its expertise during the ministerial authorization process, the design of the wastewater collection system, and the management of odours and dust.

Composting Facility Expansion: Addition of a Building with Aerated Composting Cells and a Platform for Turned Windrows

Client: Mironor in Brownsburg-Chatham
Duration: 2018 to 2021
For this expansion project, SOLINOV carried out the preliminary design studies, drawings and specifications, as well as authorization applications. Our firm also provided technical support for implementation. This work included specifications for composting in aerated cells and turned windrows, as well as mass and water balance calculations based on inputs. For this project, SOLINOV also provided preliminary engineering, coordination, and support during the detailed engineering phase.

Preliminary study and design, authorization application, and implementation support for the Zone-Éco composting facility in Cowansville

Client: Brome-Missisquoi Intermunicipal Waste Management Organization (Zone-Éco)
Duration: 2016-20181
SOLINOV supported Zone-Éco, first with preliminary studies and then through to the implementation of this composting facility project. Zone-Éco processes 20,000 tons of organics annually from residential and business sources. The study included, among other things, preliminary design, modeling of atmospheric odor dispersion, and quantification of GHG emission reductions resulting from the site’s operations.

For this project, SOLINOV worked on the preliminary design, including determining the required capacity, sizing the structures, and selecting the technology and processes. Additionally, SOLINOV prepared the odor management plan and assisted the RMR with its authorization application to the Ministry of the Environment (MELCCFP).

SOLINOV played a crucial role in the construction and commissioning of the composting center located in the heart of the Complexe environnemental de la Rouge, in the Regional County Municipality (MRC) of Antoine-Labelle in the Laurentians. This work ranged from preliminary design to support in preparing detailed plans. In addition, SOLINOV contributed to the preparation of the tender documents for the construction of a composting facility with an annual processing capacity of 7,100 tonnes.

Expansion of the Composting Facility and Addition of a Septic Tank Sludge Dewatering System

SOLINOV conducted the preliminary studies and supported the RIGDSC throughout the expansion and commissioning of the composting facility, which now processes over 10,000 tonnes of organic matter annually. The facility includes a septic tank sludge dewatering plant (annual capacity 10,000 m³).

Design of the composting center and irrigation system for a willow plantation

Client: City of Rimouski
Project Period: 2013 to 2015
SOLINOV was responsible for the preliminary design, the environmental authorization application, and technical support during the commissioning and operation of the composting facility. The Rimouski project is unique in Quebec as the first municipal composting facility to use specialized turned windrows on both covered and uncovered composting pads. In addition, the facility’s wastewater is managed through a willow plantation treatment system.
